GT6 3D Surround-View Stitching Calibration Guide

A practical workflow for calibration-site preparation, vehicle measurements, manual or automatic stitching, and precise seam correction.

Section 01

Tools and site requirements

Prepare the full calibration area before opening the software. Correct physical placement is more important than later digital correction.

  • One front mat and one rear mat, each approximately 4 m x 1.2 m.
  • Optional left and right mats, each approximately 1.2 m x 1.6 m.
  • Two to four tape measures, each at least 7.5 m long.
  • An open work area at least 12 m long and 6 m wide.
  • A reasonably flat, level, dry surface with normal ambient daylight.
Keep the vehicle load stable. The source manual recommends keeping only one or two people in the vehicle and not allowing anyone to enter or leave during control-point adjustment. A load change can raise or lower the body and cause large point-placement errors.
Section 02

Position the mats and cameras

  1. Place the front and rear mats with their long edges parallel to the vehicle.
  2. Center each mat precisely on the vehicle centerline.
  3. Set the front and rear distances so the complete mat is visible in the corresponding camera view.
  4. Confirm that the mat edge closest to the vehicle remains visible.
  5. Aim each camera so its image is parallel to the vehicle body and the vehicle is only just visible.
  6. Keep the left and right camera mounting angles as consistent as possible.
  7. Confirm that both side cameras can see the black reference squares on the front and rear mats.

Use tape measures on both sides to confirm that every mat is square to the vehicle. Values visible in the original photographs are examples only.

Section 03

Record the required vehicle data

Measure every value as accurately as possible before entering the calibration menu. Confirm the unit used by the software before typing any number.

Front and rear track
Front and rear overhang
Front and rear camera height
Left and right camera height
Mirror-to-front distance
Tail-to-rear-mat distance
Front-to-front-mat distance
Camera or lens type
Vehicle dimensions, camera heights, mat distances, and lens type required for calibration
The software uses both vehicle dimensions and camera or mat offsets.
Recommended: photograph or record the existing parameter screen before changing it. This provides a reference if a value must be restored.
Section 05

Manual stitching

Manual stitching gives direct control over the reference points in each camera view.

  1. Select a Manual Stitching calibration-mat layout.
  2. Enter and confirm all measured vehicle parameters.
  3. Select the correct camera type.
  4. Tap Start Stitching.
  5. Open the Front View point-selection screen.
  6. Move each control point onto its corresponding physical mat corner.
  7. Use Previous and Next to review the points, then tap Save.
  8. Repeat the point-selection process for rear, left, and right views.
  9. After all four views are saved, run Start Stitching again.
  10. Inspect the result and select Save & Exit.

Control-point rule

Each numbered point must be placed on the matching corner of the calibration pattern. Use the enlarged inset for precise placement. If many points are far from their targets, stop and recheck the physical setup and measurements instead of compensating with large digital movements.

Section 06

Automatic stitching

Automatic stitching uses the same preparation, mat selection, parameter entry, and camera selection as manual stitching.

  1. Open the stitching menu.
  2. Select an Automatic Stitching mat layout matching the setup.
  3. Enter and confirm the measured vehicle parameters.
  4. Select the correct camera type.
  5. Tap Start Stitching.
  6. Review the generated surround view.
  7. Tap Save only when the result is acceptable.

Automatic stitching omits individual point selection, but accurate placement and measurements remain essential.
If automatic stitching produces a badly disordered view, return to the setup. Confirm mat centering, mat parallelism, camera alignment, lens type, units, and all measurements before attempting fine-tuning.

Check the first stitching result

Before fine-tuning, verify that:

  • The vehicle is centered in the top-down image.
  • The front and rear mats appear centered and straight.
  • Straight markings continue across stitch boundaries without a visible jump.
  • The left and right views are parallel to the vehicle.
  • Corners are not duplicated, severely stretched, or folded.
  • The image does not bow or flare around a seam.
Large global errors usually indicate a setup, measurement, lens-selection, or camera-angle problem. Fine-tuning is intended for small residual errors.

Basic fine-tuning

8.1 Match each point to its physical position

When an automatically stitched view is locally disordered, move each numbered point to the corresponding corner visible on the calibration mat.

8.2 Correct a slightly warped front or rear corner

If one corner bends in the stitched image, move the related point only 1 to 2 pixels in the direction needed to straighten the edge. Recheck after every move.

8.3 Correct a sloping side view

For a local side-view deformation, move the corresponding point by only 1 to 2 pixels, then inspect the enlarged seam. The illustrated example moves point 5 to the left. Use the actual on-screen geometry as the deciding reference.

Section 09

Advanced fine-tuning

Use advanced adjustments only after the control points are close to their targets.

  • Hold OK to switch between views.
  • Vertical corrects curvature.
  • Horizontal corrects overall offset or leveling.
  • Move Left and Move Right shift the applicable seam.
  • Rotate Left and Rotate Right correct a seam that spreads or flares.

9.1 Curved view

If an entire front, rear, left, or right image is bowed, adjust Vertical in small increments.

9.2 View not parallel

If a complete view is tilted or not parallel to the vehicle, adjust Horizontal until the reference lines are level.

9.3 Stitch seam offset

If a front-left, front-right, rear-left, or rear-right seam is laterally offset, select the relevant view and use Move Left or Move Right under the applicable stitch seam.

Seam movement affects only the front or rear mat image. Select Front View or Rear View before making the adjustment.

9.4 Flared seam

If a front or rear seam spreads outward like a horn, use Rotate Left or Rotate Right under the applicable seam.

Make one small adjustment, inspect the complete top-down view, and then decide whether another adjustment is necessary. Avoid changing several controls at once.
Section 10

Quick troubleshooting

Symptom First action
All views are badly displaced or disordered Recheck mat layout, measurements, units, lens type, and camera alignment; then rerun stitching.
One front or rear corner is slightly warped Move the corresponding control point 1 to 2 pixels.
A side-view corner or edge slopes locally Move the corresponding side-view point 1 to 2 pixels and inspect the enlarged seam.
An entire view is bowed Adjust Vertical.
An entire view is tilted or not parallel Adjust Horizontal.
A seam is shifted sideways Use Move Left or Move Right.
A seam opens or flares like a horn Use Rotate Left or Rotate Right.
Section 11

Final checklist

Before selecting Save & Exit, confirm:

  • The vehicle load has not changed during calibration.
  • The selected mat layout matches the physical layout.
  • All entered values are actual measurements in the correct units.
  • The correct camera or lens type is selected.
  • Front, rear, left, and right reference points have been checked.
  • Straight lines remain continuous across all four stitch regions.
  • No view is globally tilted, bowed, duplicated, or severely stretched.
  • The top-down vehicle image is centered and visually symmetrical.
  • The final settings have been saved.
If the result becomes worse during fine-tuning, return to the last known good values or rerun stitching from verified measurements. Small, isolated corrections are more reliable than large point movements.
