Let’s start by looking at two real-life photos of CarPlay displayed on Mercedes and BMW screens. Have you noticed that even on similarly structured ultra-wide screens, CarPlay appears differently? On the Mercedes infotainment display, it doesn’t show in full screen, while on the BMW screen, it expands to full screen.

The situation where the new Mercedes C-Class and Mercedes GLC don’t support full-screen CarPlay also exists in some Hyundai and Kia models. So, can CarPlay actually display in full screen? Since iOS 13, CarPlay has supported automatic adaptation to various screen sizes and resolutions. Common resolutions include 800×480, 1280×720, 960×540, and 1920×720. This means CarPlay is technically capable of full-screen display on these resolutions.

But if CarPlay supports full screen, why doesn’t it show fully on certain models? The main reason is that some manufacturers designate a fixed area for smartphone connectivity. For example, the new Mercedes C-Class only displays CarPlay in the central section of the screen, with a notification bar at the top and climate control settings at the bottom.
If your car didn’t come with full-screen CarPlay, is there a way to upgrade it? For some models, like BMW, it’s possible to enable full-screen CarPlay through software modifications. However, for Mercedes infotainment systems, there’s currently no way to achieve full-screen CarPlay unless the manufacturer releases a system update. Even if you use an external adapter to enable HiCar, it will still be limited to the same designated area and won’t show in full screen.
Is your CarPlay showing in full screen?
There’s another solution: upgrading your infotainment screen. Not only will it support full-screen CarPlay, but it will also work with Android Auto. Check out the link below for more information:
